Hard drive and USB drive support and compatibility for the Micca Slim
For internal hard drives, the Slim is compatible with all existing SATA 2.5" hard drives on the market up to 12.5mm in height. This includes the latest 1TB drives. If hard drive manufacturers release larger capacity drives in the 12.5mm or 9.7mm heights, the Slim will be compatible with those drives as well, up to 2TB in size.
For external drives, the Slim supports all USB flash drives or USB hard drives up to 2TB in size.
For both internal and external drives, the Slim supports FAT32 or NTFS file systems. For NTFS file systems, only MBR partition tables are supported; GUID partition tables are not supported.
GUID is a new partition table type and newer versions of Windows have begun offering it as an alternative to MBR. However, MBR should always be used for best compatibility.
Drives that use a GUID partition table will not be recognized by the Slim and must be reconfigured into one of the above supported formats.
New hard drives must be initialized and formatted with a computer before it is visible to the media player. Please refer to our Hard Drive Initalization Tutorial for additional information.
